Becoming parents has truly been the greatest gift of our lives. Our son is three years old, and he has brought so much love, happiness, and laughter into our home. We can’t imagine our family without him, and we would love nothing more than to give him a sibling.
Our journey to becoming parents has been filled with both incredible joy and heartbreaking loss. In 2020, after trying for nine months, we finally became pregnant. We were so excited to meet our baby and begin our family. At 21 weeks, we learned that our baby had bilateral renal agenesis, a condition that was incompatible with life. Losing our baby after waiting and hoping for so long was one of the hardest things we have ever experienced, and that loss will always be a part of our story.
After that experience, we turned to IVF and were incredibly blessed to eventually have our son. He is the little person we prayed and hoped for, and being his parents has been everything we ever dreamed it would be. Watching him grow has also made us want to give him something very special—a sibling to grow up with, share memories with, and love.
Since having our son, we have continued trying to grow our family. We have gone through three egg retrievals and three embryo transfers. Each one has brought hope and excitement, followed by the heartbreak of another unsuccessful attempt. The process has been physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting, but we continue because the dream of having another child is still so strong.
We now have two frozen embryos remaining, but we have exhausted our insurance coverage for IVF. The cost of continuing treatment has become a major obstacle for our family. It is difficult knowing that we have two embryos waiting for us and that finances may be what keeps us from having the opportunity to try.
We know there are no guarantees with IVF, and we understand that these two embryos may not result in the child we are hoping for. But we would be incredibly grateful for the chance to try.
Our son is such a loving, happy little boy, and we often imagine what he would be like as a big brother. We picture him meeting his baby brother or sister, helping us, making them laugh, and growing up together. That is the dream we keep coming back to.
We have already experienced how incredibly special it is to become parents, and we know just how much love we still have to give. A Gift of Parenthood grant would give us another chance to grow our family and hopefully give our son the sibling we have dreamed of for him.
We would be forever grateful for that chance.
How we'll use the funds: 2 Embryo transfers and a uterine biopsy
