We wanted to take a minute and introduce ourselves for those who do not know us; we are Samantha and Brooke Brockman. Samantha is an Army Veteran who is currently working as a manager in a medical facility and Brooke is a nurse. We have recently gotten married and bought our first home. We knew instantly that our next dream together was to start a family. We have gone back and forth on making this page as we have never been ones to ask for help and honestly, we are fairly uncomfortable with it. We have found ourselves jumping head first into this fertility journey and have quickly realized that our dream to start a family will not be an easy one. Although we have just started on this journey, it is becoming increasingly clear how much of our life will revolve around these treatments mentally, emotionally and financially. Unfortunately, we have also learned our story is not outwardly unique and sadly our story is commonplace for a fertility journey. What most people don’t realize is that infertility treatments are not covered by insurance no matter what the situation is and if they are covered it is a small “lifetime” amount which means that 99% of this journey is self-pay. Here is a little back story, Sam and I have always wanted to be moms, so when we finally found each other, we started discussing our options very early on. We looked into every possibility considering how all of these choices would affect our children in the future. It has taken us many months of intensive research, deep soul searching, and long hard conversations to arrive at our decision to do reciprocal IVF with a donor! For those who don’t know what RIVF is; both moms get to have a biological role in the child’s conception! Our doctors will create embryos with one of our eggs and donor sperm, then transfer it to the other ones uterus for gestation. The actual DNA is made from the eggs and sperm, but science has discovered that the gestational parent is responsible for how the genes are expressed in the individual! This means that both of our bodies get to influence the biology of the baby conceived in this way! With that being said, the financial aspect of any IVF and especially RIVF (Reciprocal IVF) is extremely expensive with extensive testing, medications, sperm banking, egg retrievals, implantation, social work evaluations, legal counsel and the list goes on and on but most importantly a lot of praying that one round of RIVF results in a positive pregnancy test. We are hoping to raise money to help us with the financial aspect of our fertility medications, testing and treatment.
