I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) at 18, a hereditary hormonal disorder that affects my ability to conceive. PCOS is characterized by an imbalance in reproductive hormones, leading to symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles and ovarian cysts. It often causes fertility challenges due to irregular ovulation or lack of ovulation altogether. Research has shown that PCOS can be highly associated with sexual traumas, which makes this journey even more complex. I have undergone ovarian drilling surgery and have tried several rounds of Clomid. I take metformin daily, along with vitamins, and have attempted almost every home remedy or trick. My husband has been tested, and everything is okay on his side.

We have officially been trying to conceive for 3 years, but we never were trying to prevent it before that. Unfortunately, our insurance will not cover any fertility treatments, and we do not have access to other insurance options. This has made the costs incredibly high, adding to the frustration and sadness of this journey. It’s a constant reminder of how close yet so far away our dream feels.

We have names picked out and plans laid, but there is still no little one to fill our home with laughter and love. Each day, we struggle to shift our perspective from “when we have a baby” to “if we have a baby.” The uncertainty weighs heavily on our hearts, reflecting the reality that many couples face on their journey to parenthood.
