My husband and I have been trying to conceive for more than a decade now. It took more than five years for us to be referred to a reproductive endocrinologist and all of five minutes for me to be diagnosed with endometriosis. My mother had severe endometriosis and I had been asking for since my teens if I could have it due to the severity of the symptoms I was experiencing. We tried several IUIs before IVF was recommended, it was also recommended that we use an egg donor due to the endometriosis. Fertility treatments are considered to be elective by most insurances and as such we, like so many others, are lying out of pocket.
