We’ve always wanted to have a family, and while IUI (artificial insemination) is about 1/10 of the cost of IVF it really isn`t an option for us because Madison has BRCA type 1. This genetic mutation increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer by about 70% and there is a 50/50 chance that our child could inherit the same gene without using genetic testing with IVF. They recommend a total hysterectomy and mastectomy before the age of 30 for women with BRCA, so time is also not our side. Madison also has endometriosis which can cause scarring and lead to infertility if untreated. Our fertility specialist gave Madison a less than 1% chance of conceiving without the use of IVF. For the past year we’ve been too prideful to ask for help but at this point we are trying to exhaust every resource that we can.
