Hi there! My name is Chandra and I am BRCA1 positive. After my mother and aunt were diagnosed with breast cancer while I was in high school, it was recommended that all females in my family receive genetic testing. We were told there was a 50% chance of acquiring the gene, however my maternal aunts, female cousins, brother, and myself all tested positive. In November of 2019 I underwent my double mastectomy and have since had two more reconstructive surgeries. This all while working full time as an intensive care registered nurse. I have recently made the decision to enroll in graduate school to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner to assist those who have experienced trauma, such as my ICU patients. I am now in my mid 30s and am being advised to have an oopherectomy. Before doing so, I have hoped to undergo egg preservation as my current circumstances do not provide an appropriate time to have children. I am a full time graduate student and ICU RN seeking funds which will assist me in the opportunity to have children in the future.
