Our journey to grow our family has been far longer and more difficult than we ever imagined. Before welcoming our daughter, we endured more than 2.5 years of infertility and ultimately required fertility treatment to conceive her. After finally becoming parents, we hoped that expanding our family would be easier, but we have now been trying to conceive again since July 2023. Since then, we have endured three unsuccessful IUI cycles, four IVF cycles, and four heartbreaking miscarriages in 2025, each occurring around 8–9 weeks of pregnancy, and each resulting in a D&C. One of those pregnancies was a twin pregnancy, and after the loss, I experienced retained pregnancy tissue that required 2 D&C procedures and ultimately resulted in the development of a distally dilated left fallopian tube, which is now believed to have been damaged as a result of the complications surrounding the miscarriage and retained tissue. Despite an extensive evaluation for infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss—including uterine biopsies, multiple HSGs, sonohysterograms, MRI, ultrasounds, bloodwork, genetic testing, and consultations with multiple reproductive specialists—we have never been given a clear explanation for our losses or infertility. I have also been diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve, and our IVF journey has been complicated by poor follicular response, over-suppression, difficulty obtaining mature eggs, and fertilization challenges. During our most recent IVF cycle, only two mature eggs were obtained, and when we attempted ICSI for the first time, the procedure resulted in the loss of one of those two eggs. After four IVF cycles, we were ultimately fortunate enough to create one euploid embryo. That embryo is now our greatest source of hope, and we are hoping to transfer it as soon as possible. Because of my diminished ovarian reserve and the continued decline in our ability to produce mature eggs, we also hope to pursue additional retrievals while we still have the opportunity to create and preserve additional embryos for our family. Due to the damage and dilation of my only remaining fallopian tube, our reproductive endocrinologist has advised that natural conception and further IUI attempts are no longer considered safe, leaving IVF as our only path forward. Throughout this journey, we have invested everything we can into building our family—working with multiple fertility specialists and other providers, making significant lifestyle changes, losing weight, and committing to more than three years of supplements and health interventions aimed at supporting egg and sperm quality. We have continued forward through repeated loss, multiple surgeries and procedures, failed treatments, difficult procedures, and enormous financial and emotional strain because our desire to grow our family has never gone away. This grant would give us the opportunity to continue pursuing the family we have spent years hoping and fighting for. It would help us preserve our limited fertility window through additional retrievals while also giving us the opportunity to transfer the euploid embryo we have worked so hard to create. More than anything, we hope to one day look back on these years of uncertainty and loss and know that, despite everything we faced, we were given the chance to build the family we had spent so many years dreaming of.
How we'll use the funds: IVF egg retrievals, medications if applicable, and frozen embryo transfers.
