I’ve always been sure about motherhood. I’ve always known that I wanted adoption to be a part of my motherhood story. I just didn’t know that it would become the only way that motherhood would happen for me. I am a 2-time breast cancer survivor (as many of you reading this already know). Because of the type of cancer I had, I’m unable to do IVF or IUI because those things require you to take hormones, which I cannot. I also, like too many Black women, have suffered from intrauterine fibroids which makes carrying a child to term dangerous to near impossible for me, hormone issues aside. I am now in excellent physical health, and I continue the work to maintain my mental and emotional health to become the best person and mother I can be. Diva is my 2-year-old Boston Terrier. She’s an absolute joy to have. She’s the smartest, cutest, most loving dog I’ve ever met, and yes I’m unashamedly biased. She hasn’t met a stranger of the human or canine variety yet. She loves people of all ages and I know that she’ll absolutely adore her human sibling. They’ll be besties!
