Their story

Hi! We are Mary and Joseph Kline. We met June 10, 2021. We knew early on we were meant to be together. We talked about wanting to be parents early on, but we were not sure if the gift of parenthood would be part of our lives. We married November 10, 2022. Mary was 39 and Joseph was 41. Joseph is also a paraplegic. He is paralyzed from the waist down. We started our journey to parenthood January 2023. Due to Mary's age and Joesph's paralysis, we decided to seek out a fertility clinic. We became patients with Kindbody the winter of 2023. Our 1st attempt with IVF we decided to use Mary's eggs and Joseph's sperm. Joseph had a procedure to surgically extract his sperm. After several attempts, we were unable to retrieve any eggs from Mary due to Low Ovarian Reserve. Our fertility doctor recommended using an egg donor. We partnered with KINDEOS, Kindbody's third party reproductive clinic. Considering the cost of donor eggs, we decided to refinance our house to come up with the sum. The egg donor fee was $18,000. Our egg donor produced 4 viable embryos. Out of the 4 viable embryos only 2 took. Those 2 embryos resulted in 2 chemical pregnancies. We were upset, saddened, and frustrated. We were upset because we were told we'd have a much greater chances of becoming pregnant using an egg donor. We were sad that 2 of our embryos resulted in chemical pregnancies and frustrated about the amount of time, money and resources used and it did not result in a pregnancy. We decided to take a year off due to the emotional stress and financial strain on our lives. We thought taking a year off would give us some clarity and allow us to refocus. It only made us yearn more for parenthood. Mary started researching other options to start a family and she came across embryo adoption. Adopting an embryo could allow us to potentially become parents and allow Mary to experience pregnancy. Adopting an embryo is expensive and the fees associated with adopting an embryo are costly too. This fundraiser will make a difference in our lives because it will give us the financial resources for us to adopt an embryo and help us pay the additional fees associated with adopting an embryo.
