My husband, Matt, and I have always dreamed of becoming parents. Like so many couples, we imagined that growing our family would happen naturally. We never imagined that our journey to parenthood would lead us through countless doctor’s appointments, surgeries, medications, fertility testing, and difficult decisions.
Over the past year, we have experienced the emotional roller coaster that so many families facing infertility know all too well. Every new test brought hope for answers, every treatment brought renewed optimism, and every setback brought another wave of heartbreak. We have learned that infertility is not just a medical diagnosis—it is a daily emotional journey filled with uncertainty, patience, and resilience.
After working closely with my OB-GYN and undergoing multiple surgeries and fertility treatments, we were referred to a fertility specialist. While we are still completing additional testing, we have learned that IVF will likely give us our best opportunity to have a biological child.
Throughout this journey, we have already invested nearly $30,000 in medical appointments, surgeries, medications, testing, and treatments. Every dollar has represented our unwavering commitment to growing our family. We have never questioned whether this dream is worth fighting for—only how we can continue to make it possible.
While reaching the point of IVF has given us hope, it has also introduced a new obstacle. Our insurance covers much of the diagnostic testing but does not cover IVF treatment. The financial burden is overwhelming, and I am even exploring changing jobs in hopes of finding insurance with better fertility benefits so we can continue pursuing our dream of becoming parents.
Through every challenge, one thing has never changed: our desire to become a family.
I often find myself imagining the ordinary moments that many parents experience every day—holding our newborn close, taking family walks with a stroller and our dogs, watching Matt become a father, and building a home filled with laughter, love, and traditions. It isn’t the milestones I dream about most; it’s the everyday moments that make a family.
This journey has tested our patience, strengthened our marriage, and taught us to celebrate even the smallest steps forward. It has also shown us just how deeply we want to become parents. Despite the setbacks, we continue to choose hope and keep moving forward, one step at a time.
