Their story

For those of you that may not know us personally we are Michael and Ashley Hix. We have been married and trying for a family for 8 1/2 years. Up until 2019 we had no idea that I unfortunately have PCOS. Basically my body does not perform the normal functions to release eggs to successfully become pregnant on its own. With the help of our medical team, we have had some breakthroughs but they have always ended in heartbreak. In June 2020 we put an offer in for our first home, and the next month we discovered we were pregnant. It felt like the universe was aligning everything just right. Unfortunately in October our world came crashing down and we lost our son Matthew at 15 weeks. We were devastated but not willing to give up. In April of 2021 after losing Mike’s dad and receiving horrible news about my mom (F*** cancer) we found a little happiness and discovered we were pregnant again. It was the joy that got us through the grief and a very scary time period while we waited to find out more about my moms diagnosis. This pregnancy once again was very short lived and in May we were left picking up the pieces. Reluctantly, at this point I knew my body needed a break and we needed to seek out more advanced help. Fast forward to 2022, we began our journey with Shady Grove Fertility. Over the course of the last 8 months we have endured 3 IUI’s. One resulting in a chemical pregnancy, one totally failed, and our most recent one seemingly resulted in a healthy pregnancy. Or so we thought….. This October I went through 2 separate surgeries, one to determine that it was not a viable pregnancy and the second to terminate it. The egg had floated outside of my uterus and was in my abdomen. Something that happens with IUI from time to time that we were not made aware of. At this point we are once again having to further our treatment plan. In the last 3 years we have spent thousands of dollars just to get to this point and still have empty arms. We have decided to begin the IVF process which if you are unfamiliar with, can be very brutal on your body and your pocket. We have faith that this will ultimately give us the chance to be parents but this was not an easy choice to make. Luckily I have insurance through my company that covers fertility treatments that we are so grateful for. But there are still costs that we are responsible for. Most of my medications and injections so far have been out of pocket. We come to you, our dearest family and friends hoping that you will help us build our family. We know what we are asking for is just the tip of the iceberg but anything will help us offset the costs of medications, testing, facility fees and procedures. This is a very long process and we hope to provide updates along the way. Anything is appreciated! We hope to make 2023 the year we finally get to bring home baby Hix.
