My name is Caitlin and Cuyler and I have been married for just about six years. We began trying to conceive our first child in 2020 and faced 2 years of disappointment, including 2 failed IUI cycles (intrauterine insemination). In early September 2022 we thought our luck was beginning to change - we got our first positive pregnancy test. My numbers seemed to be increasing as expected, but one day something didn't feel quite right. I went in for an ultrasound, where I thought I was going to get a diagnosis of a miscarriage. Instead, I was faced with the news that my pregnancy was ectopic, in my right tube, and required immediate removal. After surgery, my doctor told me and my husband that my right tube needed to be removed, and also my left tube is completely obstructed. We went from thinking we were finally getting to welcome our first child into the world in May to wondering if we were ever going to. We now know that IVF is our only option of having our own child, but because both of us work in education and I am in school, we also know that it is a financial stretch for us. We long for the day we can bring our child home.
