My name is Mel. I’m a nurse, and a mom of one who was diagnosed with unexplained infertility. With further diagnostic studies, I was found to have uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids affect African American women at a disproportionate rate than other women of childbearing age. They can lead to difficulties in becoming pregnant, and in maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Fibroids can also cause issues such as IUGR even in successful pregnancies. Despite the many complications I faced, I am blessed to have carried a successful pregnancy, and raised a healthy child. I have always longed to have more children, and in my heart I know that my little family is not yet complete. I am seeking to expand my family through medical technology, which can be quite costly. Despite a generous insurance plan, there are several out of pocket expenses that unfortunately don’t qualify for coverage. I am seeking the support of my friends, family, and those who are touched by my story to help me fulfill my dream. I am prayerful and trusting the journey.
