My name is Kristen (36) and my husband is Alex (32) and we have been trying to conceive since we got married on March 18th, 2017. We have had a very difficult five year fight through our infertility journey and have had 8 medicated cycles, 2 failed IUIs, and one cancelled IUI related to my obstructed Fallopian tube. We also suffered through two early loss pregnancies in 2019 and 2021 that nearly crushed us and our families. Up until recently my husband and I kept our struggles private. I’m not really sure of the exact reason why but probably similar to why many others keep quiet. The emotional rollercoaster that goes along with infertility does not just impact the couple but the family and close friends who are along for the ride. It’s a sadness like no other. It’s a complete loss of control and sense of self. Shame, doubt, guilt, have become all too common. I am a nurse in palliative/hospice medicine and my husband is a K9 deputy and Air Force Veteran. We have made the decision to move forward with IVF in September of 2022. I went back and forth many times about doing this. My friend had even offered at one point in my honor. But at this point whatever brings us one step closer to baby snuggles is worth it. This is a very costly journey. Although I am insured on my employers insurance as well as on Alex’s insurance, neither cover any costs or even medications related to infertility totaling between 20-30k.
