Their story

Made With Love & Science Our story started in Brazil, 8 years ago, when our lives were changed by fate. We met each other. Our connection, partnership and love supported us to overcome one obstacle at a time as a united, strong and unbeatable duo. Since 2014, we have been fighting countless taboos and homophobic environments to ensure we can be valued, respected and recognized as a family. In 2017, we decided to leave everything behind to start a new life in Canada. After a lot of preparation and hustle, we gave our little family a chance to be in a country where we could be safer and free to be who we are. – Little did we know that another fight was waiting for us in British Columbia when we decided to expand our family. Even after researching fertility treatments in Canada to understand all the affordable and possible options, we didn't realize the Medical Service Plan in BC (and the health insurance extension provided by many companies) would not cover fertility treatments. Only 4 of 10 provinces in Canada cover treatment costs and, unfortunately, BC is not one of them. Our dream is to have a reciprocal/shared IVF (in vitro fertilization), but things can get tricky since Gabby had polycystic ovaries, and it's not clear yet if we can make it with only one IVF cycle. Shared IVF for Assigned Female at Birth involves one partner (Gabby) going through the IVF process to produce eggs, which are then fertilized with a donor’s sperm. The embryo is then implanted into the womb of the second partner (Julia) who carries the child. This results in one partner being the biological parent while the other is the gestational parent of the child. We are asking for support on this path through this fundraising, seeking assistance for fertility treatments and extra costs. Any amount would be the world for us! We can't wait to start our long-awaited family and truly experience the gift of motherhood. < Love always wins. >   We had to set a goal to start the campaign, so we calculated it based on Olive's prices (fertility clinic in Lower Mainland BC). •  IVF – Base cycle (includes orientation, egg retrieval, blastocyst culture, and fresh embryo transfer) - $8,500 •  IVF medications – Estimated $5,000-$9,000 (extended benefits can cover part of it) •  ICSI procedure – $1,600 (only if needed) •  Embryo freezing – $700   Do you want to know more about Reciprocal/Shared IVF and fertility treatments for LGBTQ+ in Surrey/BC? https://www.olivefertility.com/fertility-services/lgbtq2sia-family-building Olive Fertility Clinic - Pricing https://www.olivefertility.com/pricing
