Our journey to parenthood is one filled with love, loss, hope, and the decision to try again.
In 2013, I became a mother to a beautiful baby, born too soon. Tragically, we lost her when she was only 2 month old. Those 2 months were filled with love, but also with medical care, uncertainty, and expenses we never could have anticipated. After losing her, we weren't only left with unimaginable grief, we were also left with mounting medical bills and other expenses associated with her care and loss. At a time when we were simply trying to survive emotionally, we also had to figure out how to recover financially.
Losing a child changed every part of my life. For years, the idea of trying again carried emotions that are difficult to put into words. As time passed, I often heard questions about why I had waited so long to have another child. The truth is, I wasn't simply waiting. I was grieving, rebuilding my life emotionally and financially, and eventually finding the courage to hope for motherhood again.
Now, I'm 40 and living with PCOS, and growing our family is no longer as simple as deciding that we're ready. We need the help of IVF, along with ICSI and PGT-A testing, to give us the best opportunity to create a healthy embryo and achieve a successful pregnancy.
Financially, that opportunity comes at a significant cost. The financial effects of our journey didn't disappear when the medical bills from our daughter's care were finally behind us. It took time to recover and rebuild. Now we are facing another major financial hurdle in order to have the chance to become parents again.
IVF itself is only the beginning. Medications, testing, monitoring, procedures, genetic testing, travel, and the eventual embryo transfer all add up quickly. We are working and contributing as much as we can ourselves, but paying for treatment while continuing to meet the responsibilities of everyday life has created a tremendous financial burden.
Emotionally, this journey is equally complicated. Fertility treatment means allowing ourselves to become hopeful while knowing there are no guarantees. Every appointment and every milestone brings excitement alongside fear. After experiencing the loss of a child, allowing myself to dream about holding another baby has required a kind of courage I didn't know I would ever need.
Receiving these funds would do more than help pay an IVF bill. It would ease a financial burden that has followed our journey to parenthood for years. It would allow us to put more of our resources toward treatment and focus more of our energy on the possibility of bringing a baby home instead of constantly worrying about how we will afford the next step.
More than anything, this journey represents my decision to choose hope again. I know that IVF cannot promise me a baby, and I don't take that possibility for granted. But it can give me a chance to experience motherhood again to watch my child grow, to celebrate birthdays and milestones, and to have the future with a child.
After everything it has taken to find the courage to try again, that chance means more to me than I could ever fully express.
