Two First Responders Building a Family Through IVF

For years, we’ve shown up for others on their hardest days.
We are a married couple — a paramedic and an EMT — and serving our community has always been more than a job to us. It’s who we are.
Over the last year, everything we had carefully planned began to unravel.
I was injured while working as a firefighter, and after that injury, I could no longer safely complete my duties. Walking away from a role I loved wasn’t a choice — it was a necessity. That injury forced a sudden career shift right in the middle of purchasing a home and beginning the IVF process.
As a result, we lost approximately $20,000 in annual income, at the exact moment our lives required the most stability.
IVF is not a luxury for us — it is the only path available to build our family. And it comes with overwhelming costs: medications, procedures, monitoring, and ongoing care that insurance does not cover.
Through all of this, we have continued to serve — adapting, rebuilding, and finding our footing again as first responders and as a family.
We are asking for support not because we’ve given up, but because community is what we believe in. We’ve spent our careers holding space for people in crisis. Now, we’re learning how to accept help during our own.
Every donation — no matter the size — goes directly toward:
IVF medications and procedures
Fertility clinic and laboratory costs
Monitoring and transfer-related expenses
If you’re unable to donate, sharing our story means just as much.
Thank you for believing in us, for standing with us, and for helping two first responders continue forward — hopeful, grounded, and determined to build the family we’ve dreamed of.
With gratitude,
Leana & Danielle
