Is my donation to Gift of Parenthood tax deductible?
The honest answer: it depends on where your donation goes. Gift of Parenthood involves two separate organizations, and they are treated differently at tax time.
Donations to a personal fundraiser
Donations to an individual family's fundraiser are personal gifts to that family, and personal gifts are generally not tax-deductible. The crowdfunding platform is operated by Give Panda, LLC, a for-profit company, which does not issue charitable tax receipts for contributions to individual fundraisers.
There is a bright side: gifts are generally not taxable income for the family receiving them either. You can read more in Is my donation taxable?
Donations to the grant fund
The Gift of Parenthood grant program is run by Gift of Parenthood, Inc., a Pennsylvania nonprofit and 501(c)(3) organization. Grants are awarded through our application review. Donations made to support the grant program, and not earmarked for a specific individual, may be tax-deductible to the extent the law allows.
If you would like to support the mission, visit our donation page. You can learn more about the grant program at grant.giftofparenthood.org.
Claiming a deduction
Charitable deductions are typically claimed by itemizing on Schedule A of your federal return. Whether a deduction applies depends on your individual circumstances, and we cannot provide tax advice, so please consult a qualified tax professional.
